Novels

The Cultist’s Wife, a historical gothic horror. It’s the story of an Edwardian woman trapped in a loveless marriage who tries to escape by dabbling in Spiritualism. She and her children are summoned by her husband to an isolated island in the Bahamas and find themselves ensnared by a cult. Newly released on 1 May 2024. Available everywhere you buy books online.

The Archimedean Heart, my first published novel, is an alternative history/historical fantasy/steampunk novel set in 1880s Paris, the world of the Roboticist of Versailles. It is the story of two artists and their quest to portray beauty…and a brilliant scientist’s mysterious invention. Court intrigue. Revolution. SCIENCE. Explosions. Romance, thwarted and otherwise. Automatons. How much humanity can you lose before you’re no longer human? The Archimedean Heart is available as an ebook through Smashwords (FREE) and other places including Amazon (NOT free because Amazon). Print copies available at Bookshop.org.

The Vitruvian Mask, book two in the Roboticist of Versailles series. This one focuses on Adelaide Coumain as she struggles with the repercussions of the Naturalist revolution that has stripped her of her position as a Scientist and made her a fugitive. The Naturalists revere natural beauty and abhor technology but what lies beneath the mask? Ebooks at most online retailers including Amazon. Print copies available at Bookshop.org.

Anthologies (most recent first)

Front Cover, Next Stop on the #13

Next Stop on the #13, an anthology that I happily did not have to edit, is about a strange conveyance that moves through time and space, but no, it’s not a Tardis. My story, Riverhag, is a solarpunk tale set in a submerged London, 500 years in the future but its roots lie in some awful English cooking I suffered as a child.

The Clockwork Oracle is an anthology from the League of Extraordinary Giggles (L.E.Gs). The stories follow the journey through history of a powerful oracular mechanism originally created by the god Apollo. I wrote a short novella (long short story?) that occurs after the end of The Archimedean Heart, featuring the scientist Adelaide Coumain (yes, Adelaide again) and the automaton she created. So spoiler alert if you haven’t read my first novel. If you sign up for my newsletter, you’ll get the novella, Prophecies of an Electric Man. ONLY available for subscribers.

Some Time Later, Fantastic Voyages Through Alternate Worlds, is the final book in the Later anthology series. It was released 1st June 2017. I edited (and cat wrangled) this volume with AJ Sikes and Dover Whitecliff and contributed stories. We convinced Harry Turtledove to join us again, as well as a lot of other talented writers. My contributions are prequels to my next novel, The Cultist’s Wife, and include more than one nod to the League of Extraordinary Giggles.

Thirty Days Later, Steaming Forward: Thirty Adventures in Time is an anthology I edited and contributed stories in, graced by none other than alt-history master, Harry Turtledove. My stories in this anthology give a little backstory about Adelaide, the Roboticist of Versailles, who is one of the main characters in The Archimedean Heart and protagonist of the Vitruvian Mask.

Twelve Hours Later, 24 Tales of Myth and Mystery, is the first anthology that I both edited and wrote stories for. It is a collection of stories ranging from steampunk to historical fiction to dieselpunk. This anthology is back in print!

Mechanized Masterpieces is a steampunk anthology and contains a story I co-wrote with AJ Sikes. The stories in this volume are all twists on classic Victorian literature. Our story is a steampunk-esque origin story for Ebenezer Scrooge.
